Eragon is a simple farm boy. He finds a blue stone in the forest and takes it home. His plans are to trade the stone which he feels is valuable to the butcher for meat. The butcher refuses to take it and Eragon takes it home. It turns out it is a dragon egg and hatches. This is when Eragon's life begins anew and becomes full of magic, danger and a hidden destiny. I have had these books on my shelves at schools since they first came out. I am sorry I just now got around to reading this one. I will read the others when I get back to school and get to my books. I compared this story to the movie and enjoyed it equally well. The movie made it easier to understand, eventhough I had to watch the movie twice. I have difficulty keeping all the languages, special terminology, places, etc. straight in fantasy. This is probably why I don't read it more often. It takes me twice as long to read them. I will recommend this one to my students.
I've seen both this book and movie around but didn't realize what the basic story was ... kind of a cool idea. And if I remember correctly, the author is pretty young himself, right?
