Two Great Books

Sworn to Silence – Linda Castillo
Publisher: Minotaur Books
Pages: 321
Source: Review Copy

What do you do when you are the chief of police and you have a dark secret? Do you keep it safe to protect yourself and your job or run the risk of losing everything to stop a killer? Let me say up front that this was an excellent book. Kate Burkholder grew up Amish. She finds herself sexually assaulted by an Amish man. In self defense she shoots him. She believe she has killed him. There had been several murders up until this shooting and suddenly they stop. Later she leaves the Amish lifestyle and becomes the Chief of Police. Suddenly the murders begin again. When her secret becomes known she is no longer the Chief of police. She continues to make it her duty to catch the killer.
I know that this is a personal preference. The action and tension were enough to keep me turning the pages and holding my breath until the end. I can wait to pass this around to my friends at work.

Through the Triangle - C.P. Stewart
Publisher: Outskirts Press
Pages: 392
Source: Review copy from publisher

For anyone interested in the Bermuda Triangle, this book is a must read. The book begins with a murder. The killer joins a group going deep sea fishing where they encounter a freak storm over the Bermuda Triangle. We find the characters have been transported into the future. There are many small plots throughout. Nathan a divorced father is on this trip with his son trying to fix their relationship after his mother died. There is the story of survival as they land on the futuristic island filled with half man/half animal creatures, and advanced technology. This book was easy to read and kept your attention throughout the book. A recommended book for science fiction lovers, time-travel lovers and anyone who loves the mystery of the Bermuda Triangle.

  1. I liked Sworn to Silence too when I read it. I just didn't think of trying to pass it around at work. Hmm? Which co-worker should I try first? Thanks for the idea.

  2. Sworn to Silence sounds interesting. I like books that deal with the Amish--very interesting group of people. Thanks for the suggestion.

  4. Found you via Bloggiesta - decided to comment because of Sworn to Silence. I was lucky enough to be on Linda Castillo's pre-pub book tour - she, her Macmillan rep, and the VP of Macmillan publishing treated several booksellers to dinner and an early book discussion. She's an awesome person and made me want to re-read the book! It's a great handsell to my diehard mystery readers who want a change. So glad you liked it!
