Before I post about the five sites I visited and commented on I have to tell you some good news. Not everyone will understand why this is good news but for me it was. I teach an after school sewing program two days a week. The head of the program came to me and asked if I would be willing to give up one day of my sewing program to teach an after school writing class. Two of our students (6th graders) have been working collaboratively on a book and asked why they couldn't have a creative writing class after school. The head of the program went to our media specialist for recommendations and she sent her to me. I am on cloud nine. I not only get to work with these students and foster a love of writing in them but I get to teach them some valuable skills that will last them a life time.
Thank you so much for allowing me that little rave. Here are my visits today:
1. If you want to learn about the Sydney Taylor Book Awards hop on over to Forwardsbooks. This site has reviewed books that keep alive the Jewish heritage. Not being Jewish I still feel it is important that our students learn about other cultures.
2. Let me start off by saying I find this to be a valuable site because as a tween she gives a whole new perspective to the books she reads. This is the type of info I value as I work with tweens and need to recommend great books to them. The fact that she also works in a library gives her the added benefit to see what tweens are reading. Check out the Green Bean Teen Queen site.
3. The Irrepressible Writer is a site to be checked out if you are a writer of any kind. The positive look and approach to writing is something I don’t always think about. The tips and hints I read on the site was what I really needed to give me a swift kick in the pants.
4. Wild about Nature is a site written by teachers. Their books are all about nature. If you are looking for a wonderful book that deals with animals or some wonderful natural wonder on earth you might want to skip on over to see what this site has to offer. I’m glad I did.
5. Melissa at the Book Nut has a lot going for her site. She has plenty of information about the books she reviews and she has a wonderful layout and color. Very pleasant place to stop and say hello.

ReplyDeleteI have always loved to write and tell stories. It only took one High School Creative Writing teacher to make me believe I would never be a good writer. As a teacher when I have a student that tells me they want to be or do something and I know they don't have the skills for it I encourage them. I sit with them and we talk about what it will take them to hit that goal and try to direct them. How dare an adult try to steal the dream of a child. I want to inspire my students in what ever path they choose.
