The Reindeer Keeper – Barbara Briggs Ward

Publisher:  Wheatmark, October 2010
Pages:  182
Genre:  Adult Christmas
Source:  Received a review copy from the author

Abbey and Steve inherit a farm from her father.  On the farm is a herd of reindeer cared for by a man named Thomas.  And this is where the magic begins.

What a wonderful book.  I read it in time for the Christmas holiday.  It brought back memories of my own childhood on a farm in Indiana.  Christmas was always a time when relatives gathered at our farm.  The memories of that time are as fresh as if it were yesterday.

This book was about believing in the magic of Christmas.  This isn’t your typical jolly Christmas story.  It is the story of Abbey and her struggles with cancer, her joys with her children and husband Steve and her memories of those who have passed away.  This is a book that makes you really think about this special time of year.  It needs to be read while sipping a cup of hot chocolate, sitting in a cozy spot in front of your Christmas tree.  I’m so glad I was given the opportunity to read such a wonderful book this time of year.  I look forward to more from this author.
