This book will give you mixed feelings because it gave me mixed feelings.  These two kids, Nick Waters and Marta Gonzalez go on a field trip to Black Vine Swamp with their Biology class, and their feared biology teacher, Mrs. Startch.  Mrs Startch has some weird habits; she collects stuffed dead animals in her house.  Their field trip ends early because of what everybody thinks is a wildfire.  A student named Lizzy forgets her inhaler in the swamp and Mrs. Startch goes back into the swamp to get it.  Before Mrs. Startch goes back into the swamp she tells the bus to leave.  Nick and Marta got on the bus but they did not know that they weren't going to see their biology teacher for a while.  Meanwhile, other crazy things were happening in the swamp.  There was an oilman using government property for oil and a little panther cub missing its mom.  When their teacher  doesn't return, Nick and Marta begin to question where she may really be and what could have happened to her.  They become determined to figure out what was really going on.  The authorities are saying Mrs. Startch is on a family emergency but Nick and Marta know that Mrs. Startch has no family.

I honestly think that this book is a very good book.  I liked it beginning to end.  One of my favorite parts about this book was when they returned the baby panther cub to its mother.  I really think I had a connection with the character Nick.  His dad was in the hospital because of an injury on Iqur and my dad just go out of the hospital.  I would recommend this book to people who like adventure in every chapter and suspense on every page.  I would also recommend this book to people who like mystery.
