Student Saturdays: Field Trip to Niagara Falls - Geronimo Stilton

Student Reviewer:Marisol

From Goodreads:
Enter the world of Geronimo Stilton, where another funny adventure is always right around the corner. Each book is a fast-paced adventure with lively art and a unique format kids 7-10 will love.

Holey cheese, what an adventure! I was off to Niagara Falls with my nephew Benjamin's class. It was a beautiful place -- truly one of the most amazing sights I'd ever seen. But unfortunately, I was surrounded by mischievous young mouselets who were determined to send me over the Falls in a barrel! Oh, would I ever make it back to Mouse Island alive?

 Student's Thoughts:
This story is about a mouse who takes his nephew and his class to Niagara Falls. Stilton takes his nephew to school but he loses his glasses.  He tries to pick them up.  The teacher asks him, "Do you like the idea of taking the kids to Niagara Falls?  He thought she had asked this of Rotten Gasly,Heanswer's yes.  He also said he would pay.  The next day they meet at the class and the teacher said,"Let's go to the airport.  They standoff to Niagara Falls  The kids are so excited they stomp on hi foot and screamed in his ear.  They dropped the ice cream on his fabric Jacket.  Read the book to find out what other things happen to the mouse.

Student Saturdays: Day's Work - Eve Bunting

Student Reviewer:  Madison

 From Goodreads:

Francisco, a young Mexican-American boy, helps his grandfather find work as a gardener, even though the old man cannot speak English and knows nothing about gardening.

 Student’s Thoughts:
Have you ever been poor?  Well in the book just because you are poor doesn’t mean anything bad.  You figure out just because you are desperate does not mean to lie.  You must tell the truth always.

This book is mostly about a grandson and a grandfather trying to find work, so they can eat every night.  A van pulls up with work.  The little boy lies just to get work.  He says his grandfather is an excellent gardener.  If you are looking for a good book, read this one.  Find out what happens with this lie.

Student Saturday: Frindle - Andrew Clements

Student Reviewer:  Emily
From Goodreads:
Is Nick Allen a troublemaker? He really just likes to liven things up at school -- and he's always had plenty of great ideas. When Nick learns some interesting information about how words are created, suddenly he's got the inspiration for his best plan ever...the frindle. Who says a pen has to be called a pen? Why not call it a frindle? Things begin innocently enough as Nick gets his friends to use the new word. Then other people in town start saying frindle. Soon the school is in an uproar, and Nick has become a local hero. His teacher wants Nick to put an end to all this nonsense, but the funny thing is frindle doesn't belong to Nick anymore. The new word is spreading across the country, and there's nothing Nick can do to stop it.

Student’s Thoughts:
This book is about Nick Allen and a word he made up…”Frindle”.  This book is a really good book.  Mrs. Granger is Nick’s 7th period teacher and she loves the dictionary.  She was talking about it and Nick got an idea because Mrs. Granger was saying that people make up a word and they actually become a real word in the dictionary.  He made up the word “frindle” for pen.  Everyone is always saying pen so Nick started to say “frindle”.  I would recommend this book to someone who wants to have a good laugh.  This is a very good book to read I promise you.
