Childen of the Fire Moon by Bigfoot

Genre: Middle Grade, Science Fiction
Source: I won a copy from LibraryThing. The opinions expressed here are my own.

This is the second book I have read by Bigfoot, and the story was just as intriguing. Three children on a planet, an experiment. An eye in the sky keeping watch on them. The Swamble, their almighty? Robert, Margt and Jimi live in crater X77. They are slowly starving. Robert is the leader, Margot is the one devoted to "The Swamble", Jimi is the dreamer. He talks of seeing things in the sky. They go to the cave to ask the Swamble to bless them so that they will once again have a good crop. When Jimi mentions seeing something in the sky, the Swamble gets angry. Everything is not as it seems. When an alien who looks like them shows up their lives take a turn. I just kept reading to see what would happen. There were several twists and turns. As soon as I thought I knew where the story was going, something happened, a twist I didn't see coming. I will definitely recommend this to my students.

Mine by Delilah Dawson

Genre: Middle Grade, Horror, Mystery
Source: Purchased

I originally bought this for my school shelves. Near the end of the year no one had checked it out so I began my stack of books to read over the summer. This book was on the top of the stack. It is the first book I have read all summer. The story is about a family who moves across the country to Florida. The house they got for a good deal is as the main character describes it, "A horder's nightmare." The author did a great job of keeping the suspense going throughout the whole book. There is not one, but two ghosts in the book. Lily's parents don't tell her about the tragedy in the house that caused them to get it so cheap. They don't have the whole story. The reason they had to move across the country is not revealed until the very end. The author drops hints throughout the book to the tragedies that happened to all of the different characters. I will definitely recommend this to my students this next year.

Grandpa's Still Watching by Dan Loftus

Genre:  Children, Picture Book
Source: I received a copy from the author in exchange for my honest review. The opinions expressed here are my own.

Grandparents play an important role in the lives of our children. When we lose a grandparent it can be difficult for the children who loved them so much. It is important to reasure them that their granparents are still there in their hearts and their memories. This book does a wonderful job of telling and showing children how our grandparents who are gone are still around looking after us. A wonderful book on family, grief and the memories we hold in our hearts.
