Dreamhouse Kings Series Books 1 - 3

Robert Liparulo’s Dreamhouse Kings Series is just the thing to read to keep you on the edge of your seat. I started the first book on Tuesday afternoon and finished it in the parking lot of Books-A-Million yesterday afternoon, purchased the next two and finished them both today. Here is my review of all three books.

“House of Dark Shadows” – Xander, David, and Toria have moved with their parents to a small hick town where their father is the principal of the junior/senior high school. They buy and move into an old Victorian House. The boys discover rooms that are portals to other time periods. On their third night in the house their mother is kidnapped from her bedroom and whisked through a portal into another time and place. The boys find out a secret their father has kept for many years and set out to find their mother through different portals.

“Watcher in the Woods” – In the beginning of the book we are introduced to an Assyrian assassin and the old man who must get to the house to help the King family. The King children are terrified by the strange man who wants to force them out of their house. He knows too much about their mother and the house. He tries several methods of getting what he wants. The King children and their father must start school and behave as if nothing is wrong. This is made more difficult by an accident David has that breaks his arm. A suggestion to the doctor from the powerful man who wants their house and the doctor suggests that Mr. King is abusing his son. When all of this fails to get them to leave the house the stranger arranges to have the father arrested and the children removed. They are unsuccessful in removing the children. The old man introduced into this story has convinced his nurse to take him to the house so he can help because he knows the house.

“Gatekeepers” – In this story, the action is coming quicker. The kids are still trying to find their mother. They have been chased from their house by big, evil men who have entered their house from the portals and the old man and his nurse have arrived in the nick of time. Old man Jesse convinces the children he is on their side and manages to get their father released from jail. However, the house has several more surprises in store for the inhabitants and the readers.

I can’t wait until the next book comes out July 7th. The fifth book is to be released sometime in December and the sixth book will follow soon after. These books are definitely a must read. I look forward to reading his adult books as well. I give all three of these books a 5 out of 5.

  2. Hi Sandra! Thank you for the kind review (yeah, it took me some time to stumble on it, but I'm glad I did). Have you had a chance to read the rest of the series yet?
