The Gardener by S.A. Bodeen

Publisher:  Feiwel & Friends, 2010
Pages:  240
Source:  My shelves
Genre:  Science Fiction, Young Adult

This is a science fiction thriller of the best kind.  Mason is a fifteen year old athletic teen with a face disfigured by a dog mauling.  He tries to changes peoples first impression by being overly helpful.  He excels at Biology and is encouraged to seek an internship with the company nursing home his mother works for.  She adamantly tells him no.  When he was five and healing from the accident, his mother played a DVD for him.  He showed the body of his father reading to Mason.  He took the DVD to the nursing home and played it for four teens who are in a comatose state.  Laila, a beautiful young girl awakens and convinces him she must escape.  Something about her convinces him to help her.  He soon finds his mom has been keeping several secrets from him.  Some of them pertain to his father and some to Laila.  Want to know what those secrets are?  Read the book.  I enjoyed this very much.  I expected something as good as "The Compound" and it delivered.
