Bonnie is like most teen girls, she'd love to spend time with her friends at the mall, but she can't.  Her mother is single and must work and so Bonnie must watch her brother Matt until her mother gets home.  She would love to have the freedom to occasionally hand out with her friends.  This is her last thought before she goes to meet her brother at his school to ride the bus home together.  When she gets to the school Matt is no where to be found.  They soon realize he has been abducted.  They don't understand how this could have happened since he has been taught never to go with a stranger.  When Bonnie and her mother get home they realize their dog is missing.  This is how Matt was enticed.  Who took him is no mystery.  We are told up front that his abductor is the father he never met.  He knows his father's name and when he sees his dog in his father's car he believes his lie.  It is just one of many that Matt hears from his father Denny Thurman.  The mystery in this story is why Denny took Matt.  He has  an evil plot and he is using Matt.  Things heat up when by accident Bonnie is kidnapped as well.  This is a must read for anyone who is a fan of Peg Kehret's work, or loves a good mystery with an element of adventure thrown in.
